Mark Goldring CBE
Mark Goldring joined Mencap as chief executive in November 2008. Mencap is the leading UK charity for people with a learning disability and their families.
Mark was chief executive at VSO, the agency which promotes international development through volunteering, from 1999 until he joined Mencap. He previously worked for the Department for International Development (DFID), OXFAM and the United Nations Development programme (UNDP). He started his career as a VSO volunteer teacher in Borneo in 1979.
Mark read law at Oxford and has a Masters degree in Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries from LSE. Mark has recently served as a Board member of the Accenture Development Partnerships, which seeks to make Accenture’s management consultancy services available to not for profit organisations.
He has also served as Chair of the Board of Revolving Doors, an agency that works with people with mental health problems who are in contact with the criminal justice system. He is currently vice-chair of AMREF UK and works as a volunteer with several local organisations.
Mark was awarded a CBE in 2008 for services to tackling poverty and disadvantage. He is married to Rachel Carnegie and has two children.
