Jim Mansell
Jim Mansell is Director of the Tizard Centre at the University of Kent. The Centre undertakes research, consultancy and teaching in intellectual disability and community care.
He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, an Academician of the Social Sciences, a Trustee of the charity United Response, and an Associate Director of the NIHR School of Social Care Research.
Until 2009 he was a Commissioner for Social Care Inspection and a member of HM Government’s Learning Disability Task Force.
His publications include Deinstitutionalization and community living (Chapman and Hall, 1996), Severe learning disability and challenging behaviour (Chapman and Hall, 1993) and Developing staffed housing for people with mental handicaps (Costello, 1987); Services for people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour or mental health needs (The Mansell Report) (HMSO 1993, revised 2007); and over 120 chapters, scientific and professional papers, reports and training materials for staff in intellectual disability services.
